Tat Design

My friend Stacy is a writer and she asked me to design a tattoo of a pen quill for her. She just got the ink done yesterday and it turned out really sweet! (Although the photo doesn't do the colors justice.) The tattoo was done by Bud Amato.

Mike and Me

One of the great things about being an artist is that you never have to spend money on cheesy, overpriced greeting cards. This year my mom got a caricature of her two devilishly handsome sons instead.
Happy Mothers Day Mom!

still studying...

I recently took a storyboarding class at the Animation Guild with the legendary Karl Gnass, and It was the best $150 I've ever spent! Karl is an amazing draftsman, and the man knows more about film than anyone I have ever met. If anyone in LA is looking for cheap art classes with brilliant instructors, go to the Local 839 Animation Guild in North Hollywood. Glenn Vilppu even teaches there!

Anyway, one of the earliest assignments Karl gave us was to board out a scene from a film that represents a specific Genre. I chose to board one of my favorite scenes from The Graduate, where Ol' Mrs. Robinson first seduces the unsuspecting Benjamin...

Ghost town boards

I was helping a friend with a storyboarding assignment and I decided to do part of the exercise myself. The assignment came from Jeff Biancalana's story class at SJSU. I wish I was in it!

Return of The Salty

People were always asking me, "hey Josh, how come you don't make that silly comic The Salty anymore. It was mainly because I was too damn busy with school....or just too lazy. Well after 3 years of hiatus, I have decided to slap y'all in the face with a fresh dose of pure tasteless humor. Let me know what you think, and there will be more on the way. You asked for it!

New Graphic

This is a piece I just finished for Fox. The art director and I are both big Escher fans as you can see. Lets see if you can find the hidden imagery I put in!

DreamWorks Story Test

I was recently a candidate for a Storyboarding internship at DreamWorks Animation, and this is the story test I completed as part of the review process. The assignment was to use characters from Shrek, (Pinocchio and Gingie), and put them in a situation were Pinocchio wants to steal "Happily Ever After" potion from the Fairy-God-Mother's potion room in order to become a real boy, while Gingie is opposed to this and wants to escape before they get caught.

Aside from the given premise and 100 board limit, I had complete freedom to do what I wanted with the story. Unfortunately I wasn't chosen for the internship, but at least I got a pretty funny story out of it!

King of the Hill - Story Test

This is a story test I did recently for Film Roman Studios. FR provided the script, and I chose the camera shots and acting that I thought best resembled the show's established style. It was a lot of fun working with the quirky King ot the Hill characters.

The Boy and the Rat

This is a fun new story I've been working on. The mood of the story is inspired by Beethoven's 3rd symphony (2nd movement), and the social structure of 19th century Vienna.

The Life of a Sheep

Dabbling with sequential imagery and watercolor. Graduation anxiety?.... maybe just a little.

Fox

Here are a couple images I made while interning at Fox Racing. They should be out on clothing around Fall of 08, along with a few other designs I made.

Slice

This is a traditionally animated short film I made a while back. It will be appearing in Spike & Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation in Spring of 2008. The online quality is really poor so look for it at your local theaters and catch it on the big screen!

The Salty Archive!

In my opinion, people are not getting enough salt in their diet. The infamous Salty was originally published in the SJSU student newspaper, the Spartan Daily. Enjoy!
